This module serves as the foundation for the theoretical portion of the Attendant Training Program designed to meet the specific standards and requirements of ICF/DD-N facility. The purpose of this module is to introduce attendants to the principles of compassionate, person-centered care. This module is essential for equipping attendants with the foundational knowledge required to fulfill their responsibilities effectively and confidently.

What Will You Learn?

  • Attendant responsibilities: Understand the core responsibilities of attendants in providing care and support to residents
  • Philosophy of client care: Familiarize with the philosophy of client care, emphasizing dignity and individualized approaches
  • Nursing policies/procedures: Gain knowledge of nursing policies and procedures 
  • Special needs of persons with developmental disabilities: Identify and address their special needs 
  • Individual Service Plan: Learn the purpose of the Individual Service Plan (ISP) 
  • Special incidents, unusual occurrences: Recognize and appropriately respond to special incidents and unusual occurrences 
  • Legal issues, Confidentiality: Understand legal obligations, including confidentiality and compliance with regulations  
  • Fire prevention, reporting procedures: Learn fire prevention strategies and proper reporting procedures for emergencies

  • Disaster prevention: Gain knowledge about disaster prevention and response planning

Course Content

Attendant Responsibilities
Attendants play a vital role in the holistic care of individuals with developmental disabilities. Their responsibilities extend beyond providing physical care to fostering emotional well-being and promoting independence in daily living activities. This module is designed to provide attendants with a thorough understanding of their responsibilities in an Intermediate Care Facility for Developmentally Disabled Nursing (ICF/DD-N). By the end of this module, attendants will possess the knowledge required to effectively and ethically perform their duties.
